Ready for Irene?

OK, so I and my home have survived the earthquake, the tornadoes, and the flooding, now we're just waiting for the hurricane to hit.

I'll be up all night. :-(

(But with my wife and hot chocolate :-)

But we'll be working, of course...
Sounds fun. Where do you live? Does NJ stand for New Jersey? I thought they only had hurricanes in Florida and nearby..

That is typically where they are, but this one , Irene, is traveling along the entire east coast of the U.S.A
Yes, we live in southern New Jersey. It seems to have passed us without much incident (at least where I am).

Now to vaccuum up all the water from the basement. :-(
I love living in the middle of Europe :)
The hurricaine didn't look all that bad as it passed over DC, I'd say it lost alot of it's power already and it's only over Virginia. The most I'd be worried about is a broken window, maybe some torn power lines (which come to think of it could turn into a real problem depending on what part of New Jersey you live in).

@ hamsterman: Although the North Atlantic current has some effect on the weather for the East Coast United States, it doesn't "protect" us as much as it does say England and France. Tropical storms are definitely more common in the south, but that's the price you pay for living in paradise. It's just not fair when it hits us this far up north :-\ .

That earthquake made the car I was working on shake pretty bad on the lift (5.9 magnitude if I recall).

*I heard from a friend in the FirstEnergy group that their nuclear facility in Ohio was only rated to withstand a 5.8 magnitude quake..."but not to worry because everything seems to be fine". *facepalm*

Irene is pretty much just sprinkling over here in PA right now.

Yup, it was more like a light rain, and no wind down here! Didn't quite live up to all the news hype. Sadly an 11 year old kid was killed by a falling tree... :(

see it alll at cnn.. so terrifying..
Are you joking? "It didn't live up to the hype?" We had something like 60mph winds where I live (Uptown, NW DC), and our power was out for over 72 hours. Transformers were exploding left and right (literally.) Something like 22 people died.
Excuse me, I meant when it hit in D.C. it didn't live up to the hype that the news gave it. I've seen some frightnening photos of parts of Vermont that I've driven through many atime that are demolished. Here in D.C. however it was a light shower and practically no wind.

I was dismayed yesterday in class when the children were laughing at the hurricane. Just because we here in the central part of southern NJ didn't get hit that hard... Don't they watch the news? Don't they have friends a county or two over? Hurricanes are serious business... and Irene did some serious damage.

*envies xander333 and Disch. (I want to move to Oregon sometime.)
Mathhead no idea what you're saying lol. Everyone I know said it was like nothing, including many people in NW. WtF Bro.
I don't know, guess it was localized. I'm very close to MD, in Tenleytown.
@Duoas,
You live in New Jersey? Ahh, I was there last October. We were staying in Manhattan but we went into Hoboken and Newark for a bit.
My condolences... :-}

You have to come to the southern part for a taste of the "Garden State" -- just stay away from those places that import their tomatoes from California.
what a terrible thing irene made...
